He went on to edit Something in the Water, a doc about Long Island Hardcore whose release date is still TBD. A Wandering Path, The Story of Gilead Media is the first doc he has directed and produced himself. He is currently working on several more documentaries, the subject matter ranging from the origins of personal computers and the internet, a skateboard gang, and the garment industry. He played guitar and bass in Mutilation Rites, Cobalt, Disassociate, and Knight Terror and currently plays in Overdose, Moral Panic, and Total Invasion.

STATEMENT FROM THE DIRECTOR

“The family of bands and friends that Adam Bartlett put together through his label is very special to me, and the decade that I spent touring around the world with Mutilation Rites, that allowed me to make all these personal connections to people in this scene was a very important part of my life. I knew this era of my life was coming to a close as the inevitable split of the band was imminent, so I seized this opportunity to capture this moment in time before it passed us all by. Other documentaries I have worked on primarily were comprised of interviews of people talking about the old days. I wanted to instead capture the moment fresh as it was happening. I knew I had access to this world through Adam and the bands and I felt an overwhelming desire to direct this film. Through this process, I connected with a whole new group of people that I did not know so well initially, and that was the most rewarding part of this whole experience.”

ALEX HADJILOUKAS

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Hadjiloukas is an NYC-based cinematographer with a background in narrative, documentary, commercial, corporate, and live events. After graduating from the School of Visual Arts in 2011 with a BFA in Film & Video, he got his start in documentary filmmaking via Ken Burns's Florentine Films, traveling the country for a variety of projects including The Mayo Clinic: Faith, Hope & ScienceHemingway, and College Behind Bars. Since then, he has gone on to shoot for such major organizations as Netflix, PBS, ABC, USA Network, and BBC, and his work has screened in a number of film festivals including last year's Tribeca. A Wandering Path is his first feature-length documentary. Alex currently lives in Brooklyn, New York and plays drums in Gluehead and pelvi$$.

"When I was first asked by a friend back in 2018 to come help shoot 'some metal festival out in Pittsburgh', I couldn't even have begun to imagine that it would lead to what has honestly been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career thus far. As much as I enjoy filmmaking, music was, is, and forever will be my first true love, and any chance to combine the two is always the most creatively fulfilling for me. Though my tastes continue to expand over the years, I'm still a teenage metalhead at heart, and working on this project has both reawakened my desire for heavy music and vastly expanded my understanding and appreciation of it. There's just something about the genre that few others can match in terms of both emotional impact and enduring community. It's been truly an honor meeting and working with Adam and his family of incredibly talented artists, some of whom I can now even call friends: the experiences I've shared with them throughout the making of this project are ones I'll surely never forget, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to help bring their stories to the big screen and broader audience that they so deserve."
